I said in 2019 that nobody would pay $8 a month for a radio app, and here we are
Back in 2019 I told my brother paying for podcasts was the dumbest thing I'd heard, since I'd been getting them free on my iPod since 2006. Well, I've now paid Spotify about $480 over the last five years and I don't even think about it anymore. What changed for me was driving to my job in Fresno with spotty signal, and downloading full episodes ahead of time just fixed the dead zones. My 2006 self would call me a sucker, but my commute self says otherwise. What's a take you swore by that the last few years quietly turned around on you?
Remember when we all said we'd never pay for water? Now half the people I know carry a $40 reusable bottle and buy cases of LaCroix like it's milk. Same thing with phone storage: I swore 16 gigs was plenty, then suddenly I'm paying Apple a buck a month just to keep my photos. It's funny how the thing you mock one year becomes the thing you quietly hand your card over for the next. The price stops feeling like a rip-off once it solves a real problem in your day. My old self was judging from the cheap seats.
