Found out my favorite artist only drew 12 issues before burning out

I was looking up old John Byrne interviews on a random blog and learned he cranked out 22 pages a week for almost 3 years straight on X-Men. No assistants, no digital tools, just ink and coffee. How do these guys not lose their minds? Has anyone else stumbled on a stat that made you rethink a creator's whole career?
