Hit 100 issues in my X-Men run last night

I started collecting Claremont's X-Men run back in March after finding a box at a garage sale for $20. Last night I hit issue 100 and I honestly didn't think I'd stick with it that long. Anybody else surprise themselves with how deep they got into a long series?

Man I got totally sucked into The Walking Dead compendiums last year and read like 1000 pages in a weekend.

1000 pages in a weekend, huh? I mean, I get that it's a page turner, but that's like reading a phone book from start to finish without blinking. @michaelgrant, are you sure it was that gripping or were you just stuck on a long flight with nothing else to do? I read the first compendium and I'll admit it's good, but I found myself skimming through a lot of the zombie action sequences (they kind of blend together after a while). The real meat is in the character drama, not the gore, so if you're reading that fast you might miss the subtle stuff. I'd rather pace it out over a few weeks, you know, let the story actually sink in instead of powering through like a marathon.

Felt that "skimming through the zombie action" comment deep in my soul, though I'll admit my attention span is basically a gnat on caffeine (not that gnats drink coffee, but you get what I mean). I read the first compendium on a bus ride and honestly couldn't tell you if I absorbed any of the character moments or just the parts where someone got their face eaten. The subtle stuff you mentioned, like the slow burn between Rick and Shane, probably went right over my head while I was flipping pages like my life depended on it (which it didn't, obviously, but the brain plays tricks when you're sleep deprived).
