I keep seeing people call any comic fan a 'nerd' or 'geek' like it's the same thing, and it's starting to bug me

Honestly though, does the label even matter that much anymore? Those words don't really have the same mean sting they used to. Everyone's into some kind of niche hobby now. Getting worked up over it just gives the words more power, doesn't it?

Yeah, the "mean sting" thing... my buddy got called that at work last week and it messed with his head for days.

Saw a good article about how the "sting" totally depends on context and who's saying it. When it's meant to hurt, like in @phoenix_bailey's friend's case, it's not about the word itself but the intent behind it. That stuff can stick with you no matter how common the hobby gets.
