My comic shop hit 300 members in its pull file and now the owner wants to cap it
So the shop I go to in Portland, Oregon just hit 300 people on the monthly pull list, which sounds like a good problem to have. The owner told me he's thinking about capping it because he can't keep up with reorders and half the regulars are complaining their books sell out before they get there. Some folks say a cap keeps things fair and stops scalpers from clearing the shelves, but others point out that turning away new readers kills the whole point of a comic shop. I get both sides, honestly. Where do you all land on this, should a shop cap its pull list or just keep letting it grow?
Wait, 300 people on a pull list and he's complaining about selling out? That seems backwards to me. If you've got 300 regulars asking for books every month, that's 300 guaranteed sales, why would you ever want to shrink that. I'd be tossing and turning at night thinking about how to order more, not how to cut people off. Capping it just sends new readers to some other shop or to Amazon, and they're never coming back once that happens. Dude should hire some help or switch distributors before he starts turning away money.
