Pro tip: I used to buy every single new #1 issue, but now I just follow the writers I like

Back in 2014, I was spending about $80 a month at my local shop in Akron just grabbing every first issue that came out (you know, FOMO). I switched about two years ago after realizing I only really loved the stuff from people like Chip Zdarsky. How do you guys decide what to pull these days? Do you still follow characters or just creators?

Following writers like Zdarsky... but man, I miss finding new artists that way.

Look at it the other way though. Following artists first can lock you into some pretty bad stories just for the art. At least with a writer you know the plot might hold up even if the art changes. I found way more duds chasing cool art than I ever did following a writer I trust.

Totally get where you're coming from. I made that same switch a while back and it just saves so much money and shelf space. I mean, following writers you trust just feels smarter, even if you miss out on some cool art sometimes. I feel for @the_christopher too, because finding a new favorite artist was a real thrill. But honestly, a bad story just kills it for me no matter how good it looks. Now I just check out the art online if I hear it's great, but my pull list is all writers.
