The day I realized Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns was actually good after hating it for 15 years
I finally got why people call it a masterpiece after my buddy made me read it alongside the actual 80s political cartoons it was responding to, and now I feel like an idiot for all those years of eye rolling - anyone else have a comic they flipped on after hating it forever?

Get what you're saying about needing to know what they're pushing back on. I had the same thing with Frank's Year One actually, thought it was boring cop stuff until I read some old Denny O'Neil issues and realized he was basically fixing everything that got wrecked in the 70s.

Funny how timing changes everything. Miller was yelling at a specific moment in history, not just writing a generic dystopia. Context matters more than people want to admit. Same thing happened to me with Moore's Watchmen - hated it until I read old Charlton comics and saw what he was tearing down. Sometimes you gotta know what the target was to understand the punch.
