Tried reading a 1986 X-Men run for the first time, now I get why people hoard back issues
I've been into comics for about 8 years but mostly stuck to modern trades, never touched old floppies. Last weekend I grabbed a beat-up copy of Uncanny X-Men #201 from a bin at a shop in Portland for $3 just to see what the fuss was about. The ads inside alone were a time capsule, like a whole different culture. But what hit me was how dense the story was, way more dialogue and setup than today's decompressed stuff. I finished it in one sitting and immediately went back for 5 more issues from that Claremont period. Now I'm 12 issues deep and my reading stack is a mess of yellowed pages and staple rust. Has anyone else jumped from modern comics to old runs and felt like you missed a whole layer of the hobby? Or am I just late to a party everyone else already left?
