Vent: A friend told me my comic talk was just listing facts, not having a conversation.
We were talking about a new X-Men book last week and I was just saying who wrote it, who drew it, and what issue number it was. He said, 'Cool, but what did you actually think about it?' I realized I was just giving a report, not sharing an opinion. Now I try to start with one thing I liked or didn't like, like saying the art felt rushed in the fight scenes. It's harder but more fun. Anyone else get called out for just being a walking database?

Ugh, that's the worst kind of helpful criticism. It stings because it's true. @jamieb80 gets it, we all just want to share the cool facts we know. But then you sound like a podcast episode no one asked for. Your friend did you a favor, even if it felt like a slap. Starting with an opinion is like giving people a door into your nerd vault instead of just reading them the security codes from the outside.

But sometimes the security codes ARE the cool part, @leehall.

My buddy hit me with that same line about my Star Wars trivia dumps. I started forcing myself to say "the CGI in that show looks cheap" before listing the director's entire filmography. It feels weird at first but it does make chats better.
