Was at the local con in Akron and saw a huge line for a variant cover artist, but the indie artist alley was empty. Feels like we're missing the point sometimes.

Start small, save up monthly, commission one artist you actually follow.

I used to chase those variant covers too, but seeing that empty artist alley last year really opened my eyes.

What did you do with your old collection? I sold most of mine to a local shop and used the money to buy original art from small press artists. It feels a lot better to support someone directly.

Yeah, that part about it feeling better to support someone directly hits hard. You see it everywhere now, @shane_hayes, people getting tired of the big machine. It's like we're all looking for a real handshake behind the thing we buy. Makes that old chase for just another plastic thing in a box feel pretty empty, doesn't it?
