Wasted $150 on variant covers that dropped to $5 the next month
Grabbed the Jim Lee Batman #125 foil and a few other "rare" variants at my shop in Portland last month. Paid $40 for Jim Lee, $25 each for three others. Next week they were all in the discount bin at 5 bucks. Some collector I am. Anyone else get burned on hyped up variants?

Oh man, I've been there. Best thing I ever did was just start waiting a month before grabbing anything, the hype always dies down real fast. Now I only preorder if it's a super low print run cover from a small press.

Man that stings. I blew $60 on a "limited" print that got a second run a week later.

Ha! Welcome to the club, friend. You basically paid for a front row seat to the comic book hype machine's comedy show. That $40 Jim Lee variant probably dropped in value faster than my old car's transmission. I swear these publishers print "limited" runs like they're trying to win a contest for most copies ever made. The whole thing is a joke. Save your money for back issues or trades, at least those hold value better than a wet paper bag.
