Almost quit diving after a union hall interview in Louisiana went sideways

Guy told me I'd never make it without 2 years of offshore experience first, even though I had my certs and 60 logged dives from the inland program. Walked out thinking he was full of it, but six months later I saw three other new guys get blackballed from the same hall. Has anyone else run into gatekeeping like that at a hiring hall?

Got rejected from a dive bar once and they weren't even hiring.

Honestly, that "and they weren't even hiring" part is brutal. I got turned down once at a place that had a sign up saying they were desperate for cooks. What finally worked for me was just being super upfront about my availability. I told the manager I could close any night and pick up weekend shifts, and they hired me on the spot after seeing I was flexible. Maybe try leading with your schedule if you ever get a chance to talk to them again.

3 times I got ghosted after the manager said they'd call. @jamief67 probably dodged a bullet honestly, dive bars can be a whole different kind of crazy behind the scenes.
