Changed my mind about using a second tether on deep dives
My dive partner in Seattle kept telling me to run a backup tether on any job below 200 feet. I thought it was extra gear for no good reason, slowing us down. Then last month, my main tether snagged on a wreck and the quick release jammed. The backup line is the only reason I got clear without a real problem. Now I won't go past 150 without that second line clipped on. Anyone else have a specific depth where you always add a backup?

Heard a similar story from a diver in Florida.

Man, it's wild how many stories like this keep popping up. It's not just diving or boating either. I've noticed the same pattern in everyday stuff like driving or even hiking. People just assume things will be fine until they're not. And by then it's too late to prepare. It's like we all think we're the exception until we become the cautionary tale.

Started keeping a small emergency kit after my own close call. Simple stuff like a backup radio and flares made all the difference when things went sideways.

Used to think it was overkill too. Had a close call that changed my mind.

My cousin's boat engine died near some reefs last summer. Took hours for help to arrive with the rough water. Makes you realize how fast things can go wrong out there.
