Chat with a marine biologist off the coast of Louisiana changed my view on dive safety

Was on a job near Houma last month. A marine biologist came by to check the water. She told me that warm water changes how your body reacts to pressure. Said she's seen guys get bent in water over 80 degrees. I never really thought about water temp that way. Has anyone else noticed different symptoms depending on the temperature?

Man, I always figured warm water just meant less gear and more comfort. Now I'm picturing my body acting like a shaken-up soda can because it's too toasty down there. Guess my dive plan needs more than just checking if I remembered snacks. That biologist probably saved some folks a world of hurt.

Wow, that's a scary thing to hear. It makes total sense when you say it, but I never connected water temp to decompression sickness like that either. Makes you realize how many little things can change a dive plan. Thanks for passing that info along, it's definitely something I'm going to remember.

The NOAA dive manual actually has a whole section on this.
