Dive supervisor told me my buoyancy control was lazy, took it personal, now I do it different
Started working with a new outfit out of Port Fourchon back in March. Second week in, the supervisor pulls me aside after a deck job and says, "You're not heavy enough on the bottom and you're stirring up too much silt." I thought I was doing fine. But he was right. I was hovering like 2 feet off the bottom, finning constantly, and every move I made kicked up mud. He made me do a bunch of practice runs in the training tank until I could sit still and work without touching the bottom. Changed my whole approach. Now I drop down, get my knees on the bottom for stability, and barely move my fins. It's slower at first but the visibility stays way better and the job goes faster overall.
Question for the group: Did you ever get feedback that made you completely rework your technique, or did you just brush it off as one guy's opinion? Curious how many of you actually changed something after a supervisor's comment versus just nodding and going back to your old way.
