I was reading an old salvage report from the 80s and the pay rate for a basic diver was way lower than I guessed.

Found it in a stack of papers at the maritime museum in Seattle, and it was only $18 an hour for a deep water job, which seems crazy low even for back then considering the risks.

Read a book that said @jakewhite's number was pretty standard for the time.

It is wild how our brains just inflate numbers sometimes. My uncle was telling me about his first apartment back in the late 70s. The rent on a two bedroom was like a hundred and fifty bucks a month and he thought that was highway robbery.
