Lost a fin in Port Arthur last month, still hunting for a good backup setup
I was doing a hull inspection in Port Arthur last month and my fin strap snapped right as I pushed off the ladder. The fin dropped into murky water before I could grab it, and I had to finish the dive with one fin and a lot of swearing. My backup pair is 8 years old and honestly not much better. I'm thinking about trying a spring strap system instead of rubber, but I don't want to drop $150 on something that might not hold up in cold water. Anyone else had a strap fail mid-dive and what did you switch to?

And yeah, @viola_lopez30, it straight up vanished. One second I'm kicking off, next second I'm watching my fin sink into that murky water like it was never there. I couldn't even find it with my dive light, and believe me, I spent a solid ten minutes hunting around the ladder area. That's what gets me about the whole thing, it's not just losing the gear, it's the panic of knowing you're stuck on a dive with one fin and a dead backup. Spring straps are tempting but the last thing I need is another surprise failure, so I'm leaning toward getting a new pair of fins with the quick release strap system instead. Better to test one thing at a time instead of changing everything at once and hoping it works.
