Pro tip: don't trust a harbor seal to guard your tools

Left a brand new $200 wrench set on the pontoon for two minutes near Monterey, and a curious seal knocked the whole thing into the drink. Anyone else have a critter cost them gear?

Read a story once about a guy on a research boat in Alaska. A sea otter kept stealing his socket wrenches right off the deck, like it was collecting shiny toys. They never found them.

Shows how we're not the only ones who like to collect random stuff. I've got a drawer full of old chargers and cables I'll never use again. Guess we all have a bit of that otter in us.

Sounds like that otter had a better tool collection than most of us.

Ever wonder if the otter actually needed those wrenches? @ray_williams, your story makes me picture it using them to pry open shellfish or something. Maybe it wasn't just collecting shiny junk, but saw them as useful tools. We always assume animals take our stuff for play, but what if it was trying to solve a problem? That's a way smarter otter than one just hoarding toys.
