Rant: My old dive sup said something about my bailout bottle that I can't shake
Last Tuesday I grabbed coffee with Dave, who ran sat for 12 years in the Gulf before he moved into the office. He asked when I last checked my bailout bottle valve under full pressure, not just a quick glance at the gauge. I said I do my checks, and he said "the gauge tells you it's full, it doesn't tell you it'll open when you need it." I pulled mine apart the next morning and the valve had grit in the seat from a job in Morgan City that was 4 jobs ago. How often are you guys actually stripping and testing valves rather than just topping off?
Morgan City jobs are cursed I swear, my reg got sand in it after one trip down there and I didnt notice for weeks. Dave sounds like the guy who ruins your whole week with one sentence over coffee but hes not wrong. I check my gauge every dive but now Im gonna be paranoid about the valve seat too.
