Rant: My primary light flooded at 80 feet on a bridge inspection near Savannah. Everyone says to trust the brand, but I'm done.

Ever think brand loyalty means anything? I used to, but a total failure like that changes your mind fast. Now I just want gear that works when it counts.

My buddy swears by a certain boot brand, wears them for everything. Last winter his sole split clean across the middle during a simple hike, soaked his foot in freezing slush. He had to duct tape it just to get back to the car. Now he checks online reviews for every single model, doesn't care what name is on the tag.

Yeah, "gear that works when it counts" hits hard. It makes me wonder what kind of failure changed your mind. Was it a tent zipper blowing out in a storm, or a backpack strap snapping on a long trip? I've had a water filter fail on a multi-day hike and it re-wired my whole brain about trusting a name.
