That week in the Gulf when the current just... stopped

We were on a 14-day job near Galveston, doing some hull cleaning on a big supply boat. Usually, you fight a 2-knot current all day, which is just tiring. But for three days straight, the water was like glass, I mean zero movement. We got through a week's worth of planned work in those three days because we weren't fighting to stay in place. The deck crew said they hadn't seen it that calm in a decade. It was weird, but man, it was good. Anyone else ever get a gift like that from the water?

That "water like glass" thing is a real gift. A buddy of mine was on a survey boat off Florida when the current died for a full day, letting them nail a tricky sonar grid in one shot. They still talk about that easy money.

Makes you wonder what else it hides down there.

It's wild to think about all the stuff we haven't even seen yet.
