The difference between dive computers from 2012 and today is insane

My old Suunto from 2012 would barely last through a single deep wreck dive, now my new Shearwater runs 40+ hours easy with full gas integration. Has anyone else noticed how much better battery tech and screen readability got in the last decade?

Totally agree. My old Suunto was a battery hog too, but my new Shearwater is night and day better on the screen and charge life.

My Suunto was basically a fancy way to track how fast my battery could hit zero. I swear I spent more time charging that thing than I did actually diving with it. The screen was like a gameboy from 1995 too, all pixelated and sad. My new computer lasts like four days of diving before I even think about plugging it in.

I gotta push back a little, I actually loved my old Suunto and never had battery issues. Yeah the screen wasn't high res but it was dead simple to read underwater and never lagged on me. If you kept the backlight off and charged it every few days it was totally fine for most trips.

Man, I hear you. My old Suunto was like that too, I could squeeze a few days out of it if I babied the battery and turned off all the fancy stuff. But then I'd forget to charge it before a trip and end up with a dead watch halfway through a dive day. The screen thing bugs me too, I got used to it but reading it in murky water was always a pain. I'm glad yours worked out better for you though, it's frustrating when something you rely on just doesn't cooperate.
