Unpopular opinion: people think a 2-inch cut is no big deal topside

I had a small slice on my hand get infected after a dive in Galveston Bay last month, cost me a week of work. How do you guys handle minor injuries before they turn into a real problem?

Are we really acting like a 2 inch cut is a major medical event now? I've had scrapes and nicks that healed fine with just a rinse and a bandaid, no infection ever. Seems like people are making way too big a deal out of something that's probably more about bad luck than the cut itself.

Nah, I gotta disagree. That ointment and tape trap moisture against the skin, makes a perfect little swamp for bacteria. I let any cut air out and dry completely after a rinse with fresh water. Keep it clean and dry, that's the real trick.

Man, that's rough. I got a tiny scrape from a barnacle on a piling and it blew up into this red, angry line up my arm. Now I just slather any break in the skin with that thick antibiotic ointment and wrap it in waterproof tape before I even get near the water.

Smart move, honestly.
