Water leak took me 8 hours to find on a jobsite in Savannah

I was doing inspection work on a pier in Savannah last month and kept seeing a slow pressure drop. Figured it was a bad valve or something simple. Turns out there was a hairline crack in a weld joint that was hidden behind a growth of barnacles. Took me over 8 hours of diving and checking before I finally saw it. Has anyone else had a leak that felt like it was hiding on purpose?

Eight hours of hunting a barnacle covered crack? That sounds like a nightmare.

Got stuck on my own roof trying to clean a gutter once for like four hours cause the ladder kept slipping on wet leaves. My neighbor came out with a beer and just watched me struggle until I gave up and paid a guy forty bucks. Sometimes you just gotta know when something's not worth your back pain.

Is it really that big a deal though? I mean yeah ladders on wet leaves are annoying but you probably could've just waited for the leaves to dry out or used a different spot. Four hours seems like a lot for a gutter cleaning job that costs forty bucks.
