Went to a dive site off Grand Cayman last month and the viz was so bad I could barely see my own depth gauge.
I paid $150 for a boat charter and spent half the time feeling around in murk thicker than pea soup, has anyone else had reputable operators just shrug off bad conditions?

Did the operator mention anything about checking conditions before you left the dock? Ngl, sometimes the charter crew is chasing that boat payment and roll out even when they know viz is shot. Tbh I think a lot of places figure you'll just deal with it since they already have your money.

Maybe they were doing you a favor since the reef is almost dead anyway.

Not sure it's that grim yet, @the_wade. Coral's tough stuff, it bounces back way more than people give it credit for. I've seen spots that looked hammered one year and were crawling with life the next season. It's like that time I found a burnt patch of lawn that came back greener after a good rain. Those reefs take a beating from storms and bleaching, but writing them off entirely is giving up too easy. Check the numbers - they're not all on the brink.
