A client in Denver called my old diagnostic method 'lazy' and I had to agree

They pointed out I was just swapping parts until something worked, which wasted their time and money. Now I always start with a full hardware log and stress test, even if it adds 20 minutes. How do you guys force yourselves to slow down and diagnose properly?

My buddy had a shop in Austin and kept replacing power supplies for random shutdowns. He finally ran a memory test overnight and found a bad stick causing crashes under load. Took him three wasted PSU swaps to learn that lesson. Now he makes a checklist and tests each part separately before touching anything.

I always blamed the PSU first too, but @foster.jordan's story about the memory test really made me change my method.

Honestly that memory test story is wild but my money is still on the power supply first. Seen too many systems act totally random because of a weak or dying PSU. A bad unit can make the whole system seem unstable, like crashes during gaming or weird freezes. I'd swap in a known good power supply before spending hours on memory tests.

Did you see how cole549 changed his whole method after that story?
