A customer insisted their 'expert' brother diagnosed a dead motherboard, turned out to be a key
Had a client bring in a tower last Tuesday that wouldn't post, no beeps, nothing on screen. They said their brother, who 'builds PCs for fun', told them the motherboard was fried and to just buy a new one. I popped the side panel and saw the 24-pin connector was only half seated, plus the RAM sticks were in slots 1 and 3 instead of 2 and 4. Seated everything correctly and it booted right up in about 5 minutes. Charged them $60 for the diagnostic and they still seemed annoyed they didn't need a $200 board. Has anyone else run into a relative's 'expertise' that was totally off base?

Man, that's classic. I once fixed a "dead" PC that just had a loose power switch wire.
