Back when I started, we used paper logs for every repair, no database at all

I compared my old handwritten notes for a Dell OptiPlex from 2005 to a modern ticket system and the paper was actually faster for quick fixes because you didn't have to log in or wait for a loading screen.

and the paper was actually faster for quick fixes" - yeah, but only if you already knew exactly what you were looking for. If you had like 10 OptiPlex 280s with different issues, paper became a mess. The ticket system lets you search by serial or model instantly. Paper was nice for one-off stuff but it fell apart when you had more than a few machines to track.

Wait, are you saying paper was actually better once you got past the initial setup of a ticket system, or just that it was less hassle for random one-off fixes you already knew how to handle?

True, but paper never crashed or needed a password reset lol.
