Had a stubborn laptop that wouldn't boot past the BIOS screen

It was a Dell Latitude from a client, just stuck showing the logo. I tried the usual stuff like reseating the RAM and checking the drive. Out of ideas, I pulled the CMOS battery for a full 5 minutes to clear the BIOS settings. After putting it back, the machine finally posted and booted right into Windows. I guess some corrupted setting was hanging it up. Has anyone else fixed a no-boot issue this way recently?

Right there with you on the CMOS battery being the secret weapon. @jamief67 is totally right, it's the ultimate reset button for a moody machine. Feels good when the simple fix actually works.

My buddy's laptop was a brick until he swapped that tiny battery.

Man, that CMOS battery is like the IT version of turning it off and on again. It's crazy how often the fix is just giving the BIOS a hard reset like it's a misbehaving toddler. I've lost count of how many times that's saved me from a full afternoon of headache. It's the first thing I try now when a machine gets stuck being dramatic on the logo screen. Works way more often than it should, lol.
