Heard a customer say 'it's just a driver update' and it stuck with me

Guy comes in with a bricked laptop from a failed driver install. Told him drivers are low level code that can mess up your whole system if you grab the wrong version. How do you explain to people that drivers are not like updating a web browser?

Tell them it's like swapping a car engine vs changing the oil.

Swapping an engine is a whole weekend project with cuss words and YouTube tutorials, but changing the oil is a quick 20 minute errand. Most people just want the oil change version of whatever they're asking for, but then they get real nervous when you mention engine swaps. It's like asking for a sandwich and getting angry when the chef starts talking about butchering a whole cow.

Ha my buddy actually tried to do a simple brake pad swap last weekend and somehow ended up with the whole caliper off and brake fluid everywhere. Called me crying asking how to put it back together. Like dude you literally just needed to change the pads not rebuild the whole system lol.
