I finally had a client's server room flood during a storm in Tampa.

The UPS unit shorted and took down their whole network, so I had to pull all the gear and dry it with a space heater for 8 hours straight. Anyone else ever saved hardware from a major water leak?

That silica gel packet trick is a lifesaver... I've got a box of them in my trunk for emergencies. Did you end up having to replace any parts on that switch, or did it all just dry out and work again? I always hold my breath when I power stuff back on after a water scare.

Silica gel is a temporary fix at best. Moisture can still cause hidden corrosion over time. It's smarter to just replace the parts right away.

Man, that's a classic Florida tech support story. I once had to rescue a switch from a leaky ceiling tile that dripped right into the rack. The real fun part is trying to explain to the boss why you're on the floor with a hair dryer and a pile of silica gel packets. At least the space heater method worked, even if it probably spiked their power bill for the month.

Man, water damage stories always remind me of the time a soda machine line burst above a data closet. That sticky mess was way worse than plain water, everything was a total loss.
