I stopped running chkdsk on every slow laptop and started listening to the drive first
A client brought in a 2016 Dell that took 9 minutes to boot, and I almost ran chkdsk out of habit before I noticed the drive was clicking every 4 seconds. Cloning it to an SSD only worked because I imaged the disk first, and chkdsk would have chewed through the bad sectors and killed the whole thing. How many of you still reach for chkdsk as step one on a drive that makes noise?
