Rant: Third party RAM stick toasted my motherboard last Wednesday
I threw in a cheap $35 stick from a no-name brand to upgrade a client's old Dell Optiplex and the whole board fried within 10 minutes, has anyone else had a bargain memory module kill their gear like that?
Dude, "stuck with Crucial or Samsung" - that's literally exactly where I'm at now. I had a no-name SSD die on me two years ago and lost everything, no warning, no nothing. Now I won't touch anything that isn't from one of those two, and I even check the serial numbers to make sure they're legit. My buddy tried to save $20 on a Team Group drive and it started throwing errors in six months. I'd rather pay the extra cash and sleep easy knowing my files aren't going to vanish into thin air. Once you get burned by a cheap drive, you learn real fast.
