Serious question, is spending $300 on a proper cable tester worth it or did I just waste my money?
I bought a $300 Fluke cable tester last week after fighting with bad Ethernet runs for years but now my coworkers keep telling me a $20 continuity checker would have done the same job, so has anyone else dropped cash on one of these and actually found it paid off in the long run?

Let mine collect dust after the first month.

You gotta use that thing or sell it. A multimeter sitting around is just wasted potential, especially a Fluke. That tool can tell you why your car won't start, if an outlet is wired wrong, or if that old lamp is fixable. Getting it out once a month to check batteries or test a fuse keeps it from being a paperweight. If you're not gonna use it at all, sell it to someone who will and get your money back. Leaving a $300 tool in a drawer is like buying a truck and never leaving the driveway.

...and I’m over here wondering if my $300 Fluke also doubles as a fancy paperweight (you know, for all those times I convince myself I need it).
