Spent $180 on a hot air rework station to fix one laptop jack and it sits in a drawer now
Everybody on here keeps saying you need one for board level work, so I grabbed one back in January. Watched a guy on YouTube do a DC jack in 20 minutes and thought, easy, this pays for itself in a week. Nope. The nozzle kit was confusing, I melted a ribbon cable on my first try, and I ended up just doing the jack the old way with a soldering iron like I always have. Now it's in my bottom drawer with the label maker and the thermal paste syringe I never use. $180 and maybe two hours of practice pieces for nothing. Anyone actually get real use out of theirs, or am I just not doing the kind of jobs that need it?
