Vent: The thermal paste debate is getting out of hand

I swapped a GPU cooler last Tuesday and used the pea method, then another tech at the shop swore I needed the X pattern or my temps would spike 10 degrees. He couldnt show me any data, just 'trust me, Ive been doing this since 2011'. Has anyone actually tested both on the same chip back to back, or are we all just repeating what we saw in one YouTube video?

Pea method got me through 10 years without a single thermal meltdown, so either I'm lucky or that shop guy just likes the sound of his own voice lol. Honestly I've got enough trouble getting the pea to stay centered, X pattern would just end up looking like a 5 year old drew it anyway.
