A guy on a crew in Tacoma told me my broom finish was too aggressive for a driveway
He said it looked like a sidewalk and would trap dirt, so I switched to a softer bristle and lighter pressure. Now the texture is smoother and cleans easier with a hose. Anyone else get pushback on their broom technique for residential work?

Oh man, that's a solid point. I've seen driveways that feel like coarse sandpaper, and they do hold onto every leaf and mud stain. It's not just about dirt, either. A super rough finish can be tough on bare feet if kids are playing out there, and it wears down shoe soles faster. Finding that middle ground where it has grip but still sheds water and debris is the real trick.

Yeah, @kim_ramirez3 is totally right about that middle ground. My last place had a driveway that was way too smooth... it was a total ice rink when it got wet. The new one has a really light broom finish, almost like a very fine brush stroke. It's got enough bite that you don't slip, but rain just sheets right off and it doesn't collect pine needles like a trap. My dog's paws don't get all scratched up on it either, which is a nice bonus.

Read an article that called it the "Goldilocks finish" for concrete. They said a light broom texture gives enough grip without trapping stuff. Makes sense for both safety and easy cleaning.

Totally agree with @kim_ramirez3 about that middle ground. A super rough finish just makes more work for the homeowner later. A light touch really is the sweet spot for driveways.
