DAE remember when we finished every slab with a hand float and a broom, now it's all power trowels and spray cure
Back when I started on a crew in Bakersfield we did a 40x60 garage floor with nothing but hand floats and a broom finish, and it took us two days of sore shoulders to get it done. Now the young guys on my current crew won't touch a slab unless there's a ride-on trowel and a pump sprayer for cure, and honestly the finish is flatter than anything we ever got by hand. Am I just old and stubborn for missing the hand work, or do some of you still pull out the wood float on smaller pours because it just feels right?
Remember the first time someone handed you a power trowel and you thought it was cheating? I still keep a wood float in the truck for small steps and edges, mostly because my knees tell me when to skip the machine.
