Honestly, waiting out a rain delay on the stadium pour taught me more about timing than any book.

That bit about timing being better than a book is spot on. I notice it with stuff like my morning coffee, you just can't rush it. The good things usually make you wait a little.

Catch myself on this all the time. It's not just about waiting, it's about not forcing the wrong moment. Like trying to merge into heavy traffic too early just screws up the flow. Or pulling cookies out of the oven because the timer says so, even though they're clearly still doughy. Rushing a serious talk before someone's ready to hear it. The good stuff needs the right time, not just any time.

The stadium pour? You actually sat through a full rain delay watching concrete dry. That is a level of patience I cannot even picture. @the_joseph is right about not forcing the wrong moment, but you were waiting for a moment measured with a spirit level. My version of that is waiting for the microwave popcorn to finish without opening the door early. It never works.
