My uncle told me to always broom finish a driveway in two directions, never one.

He said it helps with tire grip and looks more professional, so I tried it on a job in Eugene last fall. The homeowner called back this spring to say it held up way better against ice than his neighbor's single-direction finish. Anyone else have a specific finishing trick that actually paid off down the road?

Oh man, your uncle is totally right! I always cross-broom my sidewalks now for the same reason. Did a small patio last summer and the client texted me after a rainstorm saying it was way less slick than their old one. That two-way finish really does trap the water differently, it's not just for looks. Makes me feel like I actually know what I'm doing, lol.

Yeah, that's true about what @laura_chen41 said, but a good power wash once a year fixes that easy.

Honestly that finish can be overrated though. It still gets slick if any moss or algae grows in those grooves. Seen a few jobs where it just made the surface harder to clean.
