Saw the weirdest sidewalk repair in downtown Portland last week

They were patching a section with this bright pink concrete mix, looked like bubblegum. The foreman told me it was a special fast-set polymer blend for cold weather, but he'd accidentally ordered way too much dye. Ended up with a 15-foot stretch of hot pink walkway right in front of a law office. Has anyone else had a color mix go totally wrong on a job?

Seriously, is a pink sidewalk even a problem? It's still flat and you can walk on it. People get so bent out of shape over the weirdest stuff. Like @mianelson's story about the spray paint, maybe the crew just messed up the color but the concrete still works fine. We're not talking about a bridge falling down, it's just a funny looking patch. Why does everything have to be so serious all the time?

Just tell them it's a test patch for the city's new public art program.

Ever wonder if that excuse actually works? @hugos46 I saw a crew doing something sketchy with spray paint on a utility box last year and they tried the "it's approved" line. The cop just asked for the permit number and they totally froze up. Makes you think half the city's "public art" might just be really good fast talkers.
