Vent: Saw a brand new sidewalk in Springfield that's already cracking
I was driving through downtown Springfield yesterday and they just poured this new public walkway maybe two weeks ago. I stopped to look and there are already hairline cracks running through three of the slabs, right down the middle. The joints look too far apart, like they're maybe 15 feet instead of 10. How does a city crew mess up something that basic on a fresh pour? Has anyone else seen a job go bad that fast?

Call the public works department and report it. They might have a warranty period for the contractor to fix it.

That's just poor workmanship. I saw the same thing happen on a new bike path over in Riverside last fall. They poured it in September and by Halloween there were cracks you could trip on. The joints were way too far apart, just like you said. It's such a waste of tax money when they don't follow the basic rules.

I read somewhere that joints too far apart cause cracks exactly like you're describing.
