My neighbor laughed at how I hang drywall, so I switched methods

Been doing drywall for 10 years but my neighbor Jim, a retired contractor, watched me hang a sheet last week and said 'you're fighting the screws.' He showed me to push the screw gun harder instead of easing it in, and now I finish rooms in half the time. Anyone else had a simple critique from someone that totally changed a skill you thought you had down?

Jim have any other drywall tricks you picked up over the years, or did he just drop that one and walk away? Always something to learn from the old guys if they feel like talking.

Buddy of mine worked with this old timer named Frank. Guy showed him how to wipe the joint compound with a damp sponge before it sets, knocks off the high spots without sanding dust everywhere. Got that from him twenty years ago and swears by it still.

Old pros always know the little tricks nobody talks about. That's a solid tip.
