That one cashier at the grocery store who made me question the whole moon landing thing
I was at a Safeway in Denver last month, buying milk and eggs, and the cashier, this older guy named Rick, just out of nowhere said 'you know they faked the moon landing on a soundstage in Nevada.' He showed me a photo on his phone of what he said was a studio light reflection in an astronaut's helmet. How do you even respond to someone so sure of that without starting a fight in the checkout line?

Ha, classic Rick move. The thing is, even if the moon landings were faked, why would they film it in Nevada when they could just use a warehouse in Hollywood and save on travel?

Right? The whole Nevada vs Hollywood angle cracks me up because it's like, if you're gonna fake a thing that big, wouldn't you at least spring for somewhere with decent craft services? (I mean, I've cleaned enough messy houses to know people cut corners in the weirdest places, but a fake moon landing would be the ultimate corner to cut, right?) The whole thing falls apart when you think about how much extra work it'd be to haul a fake lunar module out to the desert instead of just using a warehouse down the street, honestly.

isn't it funny how that same logic applies to so many conspiracy theories though? like people will swear the government is hiding aliens at area 51 but then turn around and say the moon landing was faked in a soundstage 10 minutes from their house. i've noticed this pattern with my own friends who deep dive into youtube rabbit holes - they always want the story to be more dramatic than it actually is. it's like when someone insists a local store is secretly a money laundering front just because it's always empty, when really it's just bad management lol.
