That one comment about my drywall finish still bugs me
Guy walked through a job we did in Dayton last fall and said my mud work looked 'wavy in the afternoon light'. Spent the next three weeks learning to backroll and feather further out. Has anyone else had random criticism change their whole technique?

Had a painter buddy who still brings up the time some homeowner's mom said his ceiling lines looked 'drunk at midnight'. He'd been doing ceilings for fifteen years, never had a complaint. But that one line stuck. Now he checks every single edge with a level and a flashlight from three different angles. Still leaves a job muttering 'drunk at midnight' under his breath. Some folks just know exactly which words will burrow into your brain and set up camp.

That wavy in the afternoon light thing hits home, man. I had a guy tell me my tape joints looked like 'snakes in the grass' once. Spent a whole weekend redoing a bathroom I'd already finished because I couldn't stop seeing them. It's funny how one random comment can mess with your head like that, but I gotta say, my feathering got way better after that. Never did find out what the guy's deal was, probably just bored or something.
