Unpopular opinion: I stopped trusting official timelines after I timed a 3 hour power outage myself and the utility's report said 45 minutes
Kept a notebook during the blackout in my Charlotte neighborhood and logged every flicker, then compared it to what Duke Energy posted online. Anyone else ever keep their own records and find the official story just does not match?
Waited 3 hours? That's wild because Duke's own map showing 45 minutes means they either fudged the numbers or their system just flat out lies. I started doing the same thing after a storm knocked our power out for like 6 hours and the app kept saying "crew assigned" with no update at all. Once you start writing it down you can't unsee how off the official times are. The gap between what you actually lived through and what they post online is honestly a joke.
Why would a power company even bother lying about something they know people can check with their own clocks? Duke has thousands of meters and an outage map that updates on its own, so a 45 minute number is probably just when the system logged the event, not when your lights actually came back. Maybe the map counts from when the crew got the order, not from when your block went dark. And a notebook of flickers is not exactly a stopwatch, so your start time could be off by a bit too. People love a cover up story but the boring answer is usually that the clock on their end and the clock on yours just do not line up.
