Watching the ISS with a cheap $20 telescope changed my whole view on 'satellites'
They said you need a fancy rig to spot anything, but I just used a simple refractor from a pawn shop in Phoenix and caught a blinking dot that matched NASA's tracker exactly. If those are 'weather balloons,' why does it show up on my kid's ham radio frequency at the same time, has anyone else tried this?

That bit about the ham radio frequency got my attention, my buddy in Tucson tried the same thing last summer after reading a conspiracy blog. He pointed his cheap scope at what he thought was a satellite, and sure enough his handheld radio picked up a weird repeating tone that faded right as the dot disappeared over the horizon. He's not a crazy guy, he just laughed and said it sounded like some kind of old telemetry, not a weather report.
