A subcontractor's comment about my punch lists made me question everything
After a 40 unit apartment rehab in Tulsa, one of my regular subs told me my punch lists were 'too clean' and that I was missing the real problems behind the walls because I only looked at what I could see. He showed me three spots where the HVAC rough-in was off by 4 inches, stuff my checklist never would have caught, and it clicked that I was managing paperwork instead of construction. Has anyone else switched their inspection process after a field guy pointed out a blind spot like that, and what did you change first?
A punch list that only catches what's visible is still doing its job, the visible stuff is what gets you sued. But if that sub knows the rough-ins are off by four inches and didn't say anything until now, that's on him for hiding it. Maybe update your list to ask about hidden work, but don't let one guy's nitpick make you doubt the whole system.
