Blew $400 on a site survey drone and it crashed day one
Was trying to map out a tricky slope for a retaining wall job and splurged on a DJI Mini 4 Pro. Thing got caught in a gust of wind after 10 minutes and smashed into a tree, total loss. Anyone else had bad luck with drones on windy job sites?

Honestly, I saw some stat the other day from a repair shop that said drone insurance claims spike hardest in the first month, especially around trees. @the_leo's spot on about the wind bouncing off things, that Mini is way too light for that kind of mess.

Seems like a lot of people skip the insurance and learn the hard way. I read somewhere that something like 80% of drone crashes in the first week come from people underestimating wind near trees or buildings. That gust you hit probably bounced off the slope and the tree line at the same time, which is a nasty trap. The Mini 4 Pro is light as heck, so even a moderate breeze can toss it sideways if you're not careful. Did you have any chance to look at the flight logs before it went down?
