Found out lumber prices jumped 40% in my area last quarter

I was putting together a bid for a 2,400 square foot house outside Austin last Thursday. I pulled the same lumber takeoff I did three months ago and the total came out 40% higher. Got the numbers from my local supplier's price sheet. Has anyone else seen this kind of spike or is it just my region?

Bolt action or semi auto for the rifle you took to that job? Because that price hike tracks with what I've heard from builders in Dallas too, not just your neck of the woods. Could it be tied to the new mill closures up in the PNW that are still rippling through the supply chain?

Has anyone else noticed how supply chain stuff from big industries trickles down to pricing for us regular folks? I saw lumber go up at the hardware store last month, and the guy there said it was tied to the same mill closures - it's wild how one thing in PNW can mess with everything from rifle builds to deck repairs. Just feels like every time something breaks in one part of the economy, we all end up paying for it at the counter, you know?

Semi auto for that job, but I've been kicking around building a bolt gun for longer range stuff now. Have you seen any of the same builders dealing with lead times stretching out because of that PNW mill situation? A buddy of mine in Oregon said his supplier for laminated stocks is running 4 months behind now. Is that mill stuff really just about lumber, or is there something deeper going on with the raw materials for barrels and receivers too?
